ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Born and raised in Guernsey. Always knew I would be in the army and couldn’t wait to be 17 so I joined ‘Boys Service’ at Dover in Kent aged 14.
Managed decent results in higher education and learned at the same time a whole catalogue of thruths about life.
Good times and some bad ones, both as a boy and in regular service therafter, but pals are a soldiers memories, not times, so no regrets at all.

After the army came 14 years with St Peter Port Harbour Authority. So I changed my khaki uniform for a blue one, but also volunteered for the T.A. which provided a regular military top-up and travel opportunties too.

Studied military history as a hobby which soon became a passion, especially the period 1914 - 1918. Visiting the old battlefields of France and Flanders often, proved a tonic at a difficult period in my life.

Now I take guided tours four or five times a year, happy to give my time to anyone serious about remembering war, but never to glorify it.
This is where most of my writing ideas come from, because my other hobby is people-watching. For me there is no source more rewarding than observing the way people react to situations outside their normal comfort zones. Why for example, do British visitors in France insist on calling the locals foreigners ?
